I. Hair Loss

Alopecia, commonly known as hair loss is a condition where one loses enough hair and usually has visibly thin or balding patches.

Our hair is made up of fibrous structural protein called keratin. A single hair is composed of the hair shaft, a root underneath the skin and the follicle where the hair grows. At the lower part of the follicle is the hair bulb where the hair’s colour pigment melanin is produced.

Hormonal imbalance can also be a factor. Hair loss occurs when male or female hormones, androgens and estrogens are imbalanced. This is caused when the thyroid gland is either overactive or underactive. Correcting hormone imbalance, may be by treating thyroid- related diseases, may stop hair loss.

Basically, hair loss shampoos work by breaking down DHT or the Dihydrotestosterone, a natural metabolite that causes hair loss, to allow hair follicle to heal and regain its normal size, thus, allowing new hairs to grow.
