I. Panic Disorder: What is it?

The panic disorder, also known as anxiety disorder, is a condition that is characterized by recurring cases of panic attacks. This condition may also include sudden behavioural change that may affect a patient emotionally. In some cases, it may be from too much concern on a possible attack that may happen again. This is called anticipatory attacks. Moreover, this anxiety or panic disorder may be due to stress that a certain patient is experiencing. This condition may last from several minutes or maybe about an hour. However, in extreme cases, it may last until treatment is given. It should be understood that panic disorder is different from agoraphobia or fear of public places although patients suffering from the anxiety disorder may be having the phobia as well.

II. The Signs and Symptoms

Signs of panic disorder for patients suffering from it may include having extreme anxiety while having panic attacks. The intensity of the disorder as well as its symptoms may also vary depending on the duration of the panic attack. Some of its common symptoms include rapid palpitations in the heart, excessive perspiration, dizziness and nausea, trembling, chest pain, hyperventilation and uncontrolled feeling of fear.

In addition, patients suffering from this condition are said to have a strong desire to escape the situation that causes the attack. There are some attacks that may be provoked by a stimulus just like seeing something that is very disturbing or could be from a specific event. Moreover, the outward symptoms of panic disorder may often cause negative social experiences.

III. The treatment

Anxiety, panic disorder and panic attacks are serious conditions that need to be addressed properly in order to prevent more critical situations regarding one’s health. With this, panic disorder cures or treatment is available in order for patients to cope with it. Psychiatric and psychological treatments are available for this condition. Psychologically, patients can get involved with self help treatment and therapies. On the other hand, psychiatric treatments involve medication. Both of these cures can help relieve one’s anxiety attacks.

Moreover, for patients undergoing treatments, it is important to have some support from family and friends who understand the condition. With this, it may help the patient recover quickly.

For conditions like panic disorder, it is important for one to have support from loved ones. The condition can be bearable as well if the patient will also be aware of the situation. More importantly, seek for professional advice in order to deal with this condition.
