I. Shingles: What one should know?

Shingles is a condition that can be characterized by skin rashes appearing in the body that can be very painful. Unlike any normal rash, the condition is said to be caused by a virus called vermicelli zoster. This virus is also the one that causes chicken pox to people. This virus actually stays in the body even though one may be free from chicken pox already, but it is in a dormant stage. When the immune system becomes weak, it has the tendency to be reactivated and may trigger the onset of shingles symptoms.

II. Shingles Symptoms Explained

In the onset of shingles, a symptom that can be easily observed is a sensitive skin that may be painful or with a burning sensation. The affected area may also be numb with some tingling sensation. Common areas that can be affected include abdomen, head, neck, arms, face or legs. Rarely, it can also occur in nose and the eyes might be affected.

Aside from the very common pain in the skin, one may also experience stomach pains, diarrheal, chills and trembling that can be accompanied by fever. There can also be tenderness in the lymph nodes that can be noticed. The rashes that start to appear in one’s skin may have eruption of small blisters for the first 3 to 5 days since the symptoms started to appear and may tend to erupt eventually. The blisters are said to follow nerve patterns in the skin making it appear like band or belt.

Moreover, the blisters may erupt and the fluid inside it may be cleared. However, the trace of the blisters can be painful. However, in the long run, the affected area may dry out then it will crust until it heals. This may last for about 3 to 4 weeks. In other cases, these blisters may appear to be shingles symptom and can be very disturbing due to its tingling pain. In addition, diagnosis may be difficult. This is because shingles can be contagious and may affect other people through contact on the skin, however, the effect will be a chicken pox for the person affected.

Understanding the symptoms of shingles may help one know what the suited treatments for the said condition are. It is important for oneto consult a doctor when these symptoms can be observed. Through this, immediate action can be taken to avoid making the condition get worse.
